Abstract

Text written in 1985, it indicates the existence of two contradictory conceptions of the architectural form generation in the Brazilian design studios. For one, form is determined by the logical correlation of program and technology. For the other, it results from pure inspiration. However, both coincide in presuming that these operations take place in a cultural void and in exempting the architect of any responsibility for the form he proposes. The text demonstrates the fallacy of the two propositions and evidences the role of precedents in the process.
