Episodes of modernization in the city of Córdoba in the mid-20th century
Review of Juan Sebastián Malecki (Comp.). (2024). Modern Córdoba. Architecture, city and culture (1927-1970). Córdoba: Eduvim, 374 pp.
Keywords:
History of modern architecture, urbanism, disciplinary field, CórdobaAbstract
The book addresses a selection of architectural and urban planning cases designed and/or executed in the city of Córdoba between the 1920s and 1970s. Exploring the problematic and polysemic nature of the notions of “modern”, "modernity" and “modernization”, the eight chapters comprising the compilation, edited by Juan Sebastián Malecki, analyze architectural and infrastructure works built in the provincial capital, as well as professionals and pedagogical experiences that were key to the modernization process of the disciplinary field. The publication constitutes a substantial contribution to the history of architecture and the city in the mid-20th century, raising questions for future research in relation to other episodes, programs, or geographical areas.
