Abstract: Drawing on a vast universe of documentary and material sources, Isabelle Conte's research allows us to understand the essential character of the Quat'Z'Arts, a polemic event forbidden to laymen, which during its existence at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Paris generated a whole culture of its own around the arts. This book constitutes a significant contribution to the revision of the history of the teaching of architecture and the arts, as well as to the history of the forms of sociability of the artistic elites and to the anthropology of the college party culture in the 20th century.
