Verticalization in the Americas. Second half of the 20th Century
Keywords:
Verticalization, second half of the 20th century, AmericaAbstract
During the second half of the 20th century, verticalization processes were characterized by the expansion of the tower typology and corporate business centers, as well as the production of plans and projects that sought –with varying degrees of success– to organize urban centers through the zoning of verticality. From the singularity of the architectural object to typological repetition; from high-tech to prefabrication, the use of new technologies, and formal inquiry, the rise of height as a response to urban issues and housing demand opened new debates on verticalization in American cities. The articles in this dossier address these dimensions through specific case studies –individual buildings or urban scalesv located in Argentina, Uruguay, Colombia, and Mexico.
